Cuautla, Mexico Cuautla, in the state of Morelos, is located 21 kilometers from Yautepec and has a humid climate, slightly warmer than Cuernavaca, the state capital. (Map of Mexico)
TravelFrom Mexico City you can get to Cuautla taking the 4-lane highway to Cuernavaca and deviating to Cuautla. It takes about an hour to get to Cuautla. AttractionsCuautla is the second most important city in the state. It's a beautiful city where visitors enjoy the beauty of the streets, the great variety of flora, naturally-heated waters, and its rich history. Some outstanding places to visit are: the Plaza Principal, the Convent of Santo Domingo, the Municipal Palace, and the House of Jose Maria Morelos and Pavón. Hacienda Cocoyoc is a restored 16th century Dominican monastery that was turned first into a sugar plantation and now is a a first-class luxury hotel and spa (pictured at right). If you are interested in Mexican history, Emiliano Zapata is buried here in the Jardín Revolución del Sur. Hacienda Tenango (pictured at right) was founded at the beginning of the seventeenth century, near Cuautla. It was the first sugar hacienda in Mexico. The original owner was a Basque named Sabidigoitia, and that's a statue of him on the roof.
